ERCP is a safe procedure in which, the doctor using a long, flexible tube with a light and camera at the end called endoscope, examines the inside of the digestive system. The procedure includes:

• Inserting the endoscope into the body directing to the designated organ
• The doctor then using the camera, finds out the place where the bile duct comes into the intestine
• A tiny catheter is then put into the duct and squeezed in a contrast medium (a special dye) and X-rays are then taken.
• The contrast medium allows the doctors to see the bile ducts, the gallbladder, and the pancreatic duct on the X-rays
• The X-Rays are then examined with other reports to find out the issue
