DIFFERENCES BETWEEN GASTRIC SLEEVE AND GASTRIC BYPASS
Gastric Sleeve and Gastric Bypass are two important
types of bariatric surgery. Each type of surgery has its own benefits and
risks. Gastric bypass and gastric sleeve are very similar procedures.
In Gastric Bypass procedure, surgeon attaches a small
pouch to the intestine in order to bypass the stomach and in Gastric Sleeve
procedure; surgeon removes a portion of the stomach, producing a tube-shaped
stomach (sleeve).
After Gastric Bypass surgery, patients can expect to
lose 60 to 80 percent of excess weight within the first year to year and a half
while after Gastric Sleeve surgery; patients expect to lose weight at a slower
and steadier rate. In the first 12 to 18 months patients can lose 60 to 70 percent
of excess weight.
